2nd BIO-ICT Summer School started at the Institute for Marine Biology

2nd BIO-ICT Summer School started at the Institute for Marine Biology in Kotor on 28 August and it will last until 2 September 2017.  

BIO-ICT Centre of Excellence organises the Summer School for University of Montenegro students in order to present them the latest trends in the field of information technologies, usage of IT in daily life, cutting-edge IoT developments.

Students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Biotechnical Faculty, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Political Science will have the opportunity to learn more about the application of bioinformatics in ecology and agriculture through practical work with researchers. The main goal of the BIO-ICT Summer School is to promote multidisciplinary team work of students from different fields where they will be informed about the up-to-date developments in the field of bioinformatics, as well as BIO-ICT Centre key activities.

BIO-ICT Summer School offers a five-day programme where participants will get acquainted with the Institute of Marine Biology work and marine biology basics, and they will also visit COGIMAR and their shellfish and fish farms to be introduced to the integral mariculture.  In addition to the methodology of laboratory work where they will learn about the work of biosensors on shells, students will take part in the field work at sea where they will be sampling sea water on the research boat. BIO-ICT Centre researchers will present to the students the greatest BIO-ICT achievements and current activities, such as: presentation of the smart buoy, IoT concept and cloud computing, wireless communication systems of the fifth generation and possible solutions for antenna systems, analysis of satellite monitoring of Chlorophylla a, as well as chemical, biological and microbiological analysis and drifter operations and sea current measurements activities. One day of the Summer School will be dedicated to an interactive workshop where students will participate in practical experiments with BIO-ICT researchers, and present the results of their work. Students of the Summer School will also be the first participants of the MOOC (massive on-line open course), prepared within the BIO-ICT Centre of Excellence, which is also the first course of this type at the University of Montenegro.
