An international study on physical literacy and its integration into physical education curricula, in which researchers from the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education at the University of Montenegro also participated, has been published in the Journal of Curriculum Studies (Q1 according to WoS).

The paper, entitled “Compatibility of physical education curricula with physical literacy across 40 European countries” (Carl et al., 2025), includes contributions from Montenegrin co-authors Prof. Dr. Bojan Mašanović and Prof. Dr. Stevo Popović, as part of the international research network EUROPLIT Group, which brings together more than 70 experts from 40 European countries.

The study represents the first comprehensive analysis of the alignment of physical education curricula with the concept of physical literacy at the European level. The main finding shows that countries with higher levels of human development, educational standards, and innovation capacity achieve greater alignment of physical education curricula with the concept of physical literacy.

The paper is of particular significance as it directly contributes to the strategies of UNESCO and the World Health Organization (WHO), which recognize physical literacy as a key to lifelong learning, health, and inclusive education.

The participation of researchers from the University of Montenegro in such an important and internationally relevant study confirms the growing scientific impact of our institution, as well as its contribution to the development of modern approaches to physical education and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
